Stimulus: Nowadays a news is spreading rapidly on social media and the Internet that the US government is going to give the fourth stimulus check of $2,000 to every citizen in July or August 2025. Many people have placed hopes on this news believing it to be true, but the reality is something else. Let’s know the truth, so that you do not fall prey to any rumor or fraud.
Where did the rumor start
The discussion of this $2,000 stimulus check first started with social media posts and an article published on July 19. That report claimed that single tax filers whose income is less than $75,000 and married couples whose income is less than $150,000 will get this amount. Along with this, there was also talk of additional payment for dependents.
But the truth is that till now neither the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has issued any official statement nor the US Congress has passed any such law. There is no mention of a new $2,000 stimulus payment anywhere in all the government press releases so far.
What official sources say
The statement issued by the IRS on July 15, 2025 (IR-2025-75) was only related to tax protection and deadline extension, not any new stimulus check.
The last stimulus payment made by the US government was in 2021 under the “American Rescue Plan”, which was up to $1,400 per eligible adult. There has been no new federal COVID-style cash relief package since then.
Why people believe this will happen
Rising inflation, rent, food and medical expenses have put a burden on the pockets of common Americans. The stimulus checks in 2020 and 2021 provided a lot of relief to the people, so many people believe that the government will take such a step again.
Some rumors also suggest the government will pay out through savings from efficiency programs or cryptocurrency (such as “DOGE dividends”), but that’s all just talk, not law.
When was the last stimulus payment received
In early 2021, the third and final stimulus payment of up to $1,400 was passed to eligible adults. It was part of the “American Rescue Plan” passed in March 2021. No direct payments have been announced since then, and the deadline to claim the 2021 rebate credit has expired in April 2025.
What the government is doing
While there is no new stimulus check, some steps have been taken to combat inflation. The Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for Social Security recipients has been increased in 2025, increasing their monthly income. Some states have also provided inflation relief of $200–$400, but this is not at the federal level.[Related-Posts]
How to avoid fraud
The IRS repeatedly warns that if you receive an email, message or social media link promising a $2,000 payment, do not click on it. Only irs.gov and treasury.gov are official websites. If someone asks you for personal information or money and talks about giving you a check, then understand that it is a fraud.
Rumors of getting a fourth stimulus check of $2,000 in July or August 2025 are completely false. No new law has been passed, no official proposal, and no government plan. Relief plans are currently focused on Social Security, state-level aid and tax credits. So rely on correct information at this time and avoid rumors.
